Avodart vs. PROPECIA for Male Pattern Baldness

As you may know, PROPECIA is a popular prescription medication that is used to fight the effects of male pattern baldness. As you may not know, PROPECIA is used as a treatment for prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate). The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the drug for both uses.

Recently, a new drug known as Advodart has been getting a lot of attention on the internet. Part of the reason for this sudden exposure is due to the fact that Avodart is a close chemical cousin of PROPECIA. In fact, the generic name for PROPECIA is Finasteride, while the generic name for Avodart is Dutasteride.

How do they stack up, Avodart Vs. Propecia ? Both drugs are used to treat the same conditions, male pattern baldness and enlarged prostate. But while PROPECIA has been approved by the FDA as a treatment for both diseases, Avodart has only been Okayed for use in patients suffering from prostatic hyperplasia.

What does this mean? Well, it means that the FDA believes that more testing must be done. This could take another three to five years of clinical trials. Why then are people so excited about Avodart? The truth is that the drug has tested extremely well in early studies, even better than PROPECIA.

And since the drugs are chemically similar and are used to treat the same conditions and even have the same side effects, it stands to reason that Avodart can be safely used for male pattern baldness. While the early numbers are still sketchy, it is believe by many in the industry that the drug is slightly stronger and more effective than PROPECIA.
